The Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2007. The School was founded in New York City in 1987 with just 20 students, moved to Washington D.C. to partner with The George Washington University in 1995, and has enjoyed remarkable growth in the Nation's Capital. The School currently has over 250 students enrolled in graduate degree programs, as well as students involved in international and professional development programs. As the first school of its kind in the U.S., The Graduate School of Political Management is considered the premier school in the Nation for professional applied politics.

The GW Graduate School of Political Management online master's programs draw from multiple academic disciplines and are delivered in a flexible e-learning format. By combining university faculty experts with accomplished practitioners, The Graduate School of Political Management is a catalyst for academic innovation, constructing credentials for the workforce that uphold the University's rigorous standards of academic excellence and respond to the needs of today's political and public relations professionals.

History

Over its history, the GSPM has constructed an innovative and highly regarded curriculum, recruited an excellent faculty, attracted quality students, provided them with the best technical training and ethical guidance, and placed them in significant professional positions. In developing the Nation's preeminent professional school of politics, The George Washington University has pursued four major goals:
  • To establish a community of students, scholars and professionals devoted to learning, teaching, research and critical thinking in political management, public relations, and its relationship to democratic government;
  • To recruit, train and graduate the next generation of political and public relations professionals while establishing the School's reputation as the standard of excellence in professional politics;
  • To increase access to politics for under-represented groups; and,
  • To develop and promote the highest ethical and professional standards of political management and public relations.

Mission

The Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM) seeks to improve politics by educating its students and professionals in the tools, principles and values of participatory democracy, preparing them for careers as ethical and effective advocates and leaders at the international, national and local levels.
